19րդ դարի վերջը և 20-րդ դարի սկիզբը հայ ժողովրդի համար ճակատագրական ժամանակաշրջան էր: Օսմանյան Կայսրությունը պետական մակարդակով ծրագրեց և իրագործեց հայերի զանգվածային կոտորած: Այն իր գագաթնակետին հասավ 1915-1916թթ., երբ 1915-ի ապրիլի 24-ին սկսված ջարդերին զոհ գնաց մոտ 1.5 միլիոն հայ… Այս մասին ավելի մանրամասն տե՜ս Մեծ Եղեռնի մասին բաժինը:

Այս իրողությունը ժամանակին դատապարտեցին բազմաթիվ առաջադեմ մտավորականներ` գերմանացի արևելագետներ Յ. Լեփսիուսը, Ժ. Մարկվարտը, անգլիացի պատմաբան Ա. Թոյնբին, ամերիկացի դիվանագետ, Թուրքիայում ԱՄՆ դեսպան Հ. Մորգենթաուն, ֆրանսիացի գրող Ա. Ֆրանցը, ռուս գրականագետ Վ. Բրյուսովը և այլոք: Պետական մակարդակով Հայոց Ցեղասպանությունը դատապարտվեց Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմից հետո:

Խորհրդային շրջանում այս մասին թույլատրվեց խոսել միայն 50-ականներին: 1965 թվականին` Մեծ Եղեռնի 50 ամյակի կապակցությամբ, ճարտարապետներ Թարխանյանի և Քալաշյանի նախագծով, Ծիծեռնակաբերդ կոչվող բլրի վրա կանգնեցվեց Հայոց Ցեղասպանությանը նվիրված հուշարձանը:




Հուշարձանը կազմված է 2 մասից: Առաջին մասը բարձր սյուն է: Մյուս մասը կազմված է դեպի հավերժական կրակը թեքված, ավելի ցածր պատերից, որոնց միջև կան աստիճաններ: Յուրաքանչյուր տարվա ապրիլի 24-ին այստեղ են այցելում մեծ թվով հայեր և օտարերկրացիներ: Այդ օրը կրակի շուրջը պատվում է ծաղիկների շերտով, որի բարձրությունը երբեմն անցնում է 1 մետրից:

Հուշարձանի 2 մասից բաղկացած լինելը ժողովրդի մոտ տարբեր բացատրություններ ունի: Մի մասի կարծիքով, 2 մասերը խորհրդանշում են Արևմտյան և Արևելյան Հայաստանները, այլոց կարծքով` Մեծ ու Փոքր Մասիսները:

Հուշահամալիրի տարածքում գործում է նաև Ցեղասպանության թանգարան:

Ծիծեռնակաբերդի հուշարձանը այժմ Երևանի տեսարժան վայրերից է..................... ..................
Ահա սրանք են այն հայ վրիժառուները, որոնք սպանեցին ցեղասպաններին, որոնց երբեք չի մոռանա հայ ժողովուրդը.
